Sort the bass:)

hey man, nice trk. Bass peaks a little in places, a bit too high in the mix methinks:) I like the pads and the layering of sounds, but it all feels a little disjointed, more of an idea than a track. The beats sound good when they come in, but i would definately sort that bass level out, as it kinda ruins the sound of the trk in my ears.

StrangeEncounters responds:

Thanks for the review. I'll be sure to use your advice for the full. ( If I ever complete it. ) :)

Traffic.

That thread isn't so useless, without it I would never have seen that u had a new trk up:)
Jesus that's a loud fx in the right ear.
Lovely panning on the reverse 'guitar'? turn that effect/sample down though!!
Like what you're doing with the drums, has a postal service feel to it, i think you need to make the drums your own and adapt them to make them not sound quite so preset. That aside this has real potential in my ears, some nice soft layered vox over the top and a quality guitar/synth solo towards the end and you're onto a winner.
Drums need to be sorted though:) and perhaps a breakdown in the mid-section, a nice dropped out bridge where only the drums play with some vocals? would sound cool i think.

pitbulljones responds:

Crikey someone read the audio advertisements, and it's eld Kingbastard himself, yet again giviong me a fantastic review.

its that bell synth thats loud innit, it's a strange one, as it's masks when everything is in the mix due to some phasing, i need to learn automation i really do.

i'm agreeing with you on the drums, theyre just FL samples, stright out of the box. Ive got like 50 kits of samples in my libary yet FL won't load em!!!! Getting angry about that. I might have to change my beat maker.

Totally needs a guitar solo at the end, but i aint no fret wanker, i can riff for about 20 seconds but im really just a quality rythmn guitarist.

and again you're right about a brigde section, i was thinking about it, thinking what chord scheme but i left it as it is, though i'm definately coming bk to this track.

if you reckon you can add a vocal to this, get some lyrics done and we'll see what we can do, i'll do harmonies.

thanks KB

Zelda

Wow! this is cheesy:) in a nice way. A good soundtrack tune, and quality bassline, but ultimately just a nice piece of music/musak. It's really corny man! Could be something from a zelda game i reckon.

LoneEagle responds:

Hehe thanks man, your comments are much appreciated. I'll take the "could be in a zelda game" thins as a compliment and the "corny" thing with a big laugh and huge smile :D

Thanks for the review.

Ambi-pure:)

A nice trk, skips along quite smoothly. Found the drums to be a bit repetetive, though nice use of the low talking drum to add a nice bass edge to the trk, cos without it this would be quite trebley. Doesn't do much, but does enough to hold your interest, builds up well too. I think it's over long, but that can be said of many ambient pieces, it's all down to the listeners perspective. I've never liked really drawn out ambient/chill-out, this doesn't really fall into that category, I just think it could progress a tad quicker, either that or introduce some more elements and take out others perhaps.
it's a cool trk that i definately enjoyed the more i listened to it, so i was going to give it 8 but i slapped a 9 on its ass instead.

Splagawaga responds:

:D thanks kingb, nice comprehensive review. i spent little to no time doing the drum track for this tune. it was all about the musical side for me in this case. so yeh its all a bit trebley and pokey bar the bass synth. glad to hear it grew on u 2nd time round.
ta, waga

Gentle, but not:)

Really like the chords, and the lo-fi sounds. The intro is good being drawn out as it is, but perhaps it goes on a bit too long. Again, this trk seems really loud to me, and not because i just listen to ambient music eihter:) It's quite trebley which could be the main problem, those high frquencies really cut through and are a little peaky for my tastes, the whole thing could do with a more ambient gentle mix, perhaps some reverb on the master and bringing down the hi-end would help. It's a nice gentle tune, but I can't really relax to it as it's also quite harsh production wise, perhaps because you've had to submit it at a lower bitrate.
I have heard of parargraphs btw, lol, it's just that i write my reviews as i lisetn through the song, so I tend not to worry about things like that:)
I like it man. Just wish it was all a bit smoother.

pitbulljones responds:

alright KB. cheers for bobbing by and reviewing the track. I tend to make really drawn out songs, just due to file limit i usually never post em here. the volume factor, it is loud, i agree, and i know why. I was mixing this at low volume as me flatmate was in bed, no headphoines, so ive been compensating levels and pushing higher than they should be, also ive got this cool mastering limiter called elephant and you can really push your tracks up in level, i think i added 6db to this via that. but i agree with you.

The bitrate is a problem on this track, at 192kbps it sounds a lot clearer i promise, but 4mb limit is a bastard. im not the greatest masterin technician yet, but i'll work on the things you've said. thanks fr the review again mate.

Clowning

I really like the tracks simplictiy and kick along nature. It does throw up pictures of a mad looking clown bouncing down the street touching people, and everyone he touches turns into a mad cloan just like him:) It's the dubby bouncey bassline that does it, enjoyable trk even though there isn't much to it.

Splagawaga responds:

haha, nice idea for a music video. glad u enjoyed the jokey bounce of this one. i had alot of fun making. kept me on the verge of laughter all day :)

nice

Yep, this is another nice trk. I find the intro very drawn out and a bit boring though, not enough going on to hold my attention. Should get into it's groove a bit quicker. I'm not really a fan of the ethnic or panpipe sound when mixed with electronics either.
Like the acid bassline though, and the drum chopping is good, but i think the trk lacks something. Prodigy reminisent style bass line, i like the end section the most, even if the drums sound a bit familiar, think it should get to that section faster.

Splagawaga responds:

interesting criticism's about the track. i think your right about the intro it needs to be halved and the slightly more solid drums should come in sooner, im surprised u didnt like the flute section i thought it was the most redeeming feature of this track myself. the double/half time im really pleased with.

but then again your definately right theres something lacking about the tune and its really hard to put ur finger on what it is. i think compositionally it could be better. but i racked my brains trying to arrange this one well and i think the idea just got too burnt out in the end....which is a shame.

thanks for the review.

Each Step

Gotta go with Ped on this one and sat that Trance of this kind aint my cup of tea. The intro sounds a little early 90's poppish and the levels of certain sounds do take over the mix a little in places, the bass especially. It's all a bit muddy and some seperation would really help this trk come alive. Plenty going on to keep you interested and good for a flash game perhaps, but not for me:)

nightvision responds:

The muddiness is a comment from everyone, I'm going to invest in a new set of headphones, hopefully that will clean up the problem.

Thanks for the input

Frozen

A nicely written piece of metal that definately makes you want to listen more than once. I do feel there are some issues with timing and production in places though, The mix seems very trebley to me and lacks any bass punch. Some EQ tweaking could really help this trk become much more of a monster.

DarKsidE555 responds:

Right you are King of bastards. Tell you what...this was done in an hour. Mainly it was a "test" for my new distortion that I developed and got going on. ^^

The mix doesn't seem very trebly too me, maybe it was the lead guitar, cause the sound of her was bit sharp. I'll fix that in my future projects.

Yes, right with the bass. I got none and I don't know if I really want to work with a vst. If I consider using a vst it has to sound "realistic". But as you mentioned, it would help the sound.

All in all it was just a test but I will put more effort in my future projects, thats for sure cause I finally found MY sound (at least for the guitars that is ^^)

Thanks for teh review man!

Dark winds

well now, it's produced really nicely, but it's a hard piece for me to judge as I don't know how much of it is an original composition and if it's a midi trk. Very hard to give my opinion as i'm not aware of the original piece, but i liked it nontheless, top notch choice of instrumentation and a polished feel to the trk.

Arbiter responds:

Well damn.
Everything is original, and it's "midi" in the way of being sequenced.
As I previously stated in a review--This has no connection to the actual game "Legend Of Gaia".
