Rain

Ah Rain, one thing I know lots about living in the UK:) This trk is quite descriptive, with the synths reflecting the sound of droplets splashing off the window pane. Your choice of sounds in this trk are very fitting, especially the thunder esq sound that comes in as the trk builds. Definately my favourite of your recent submissions. Good simple interlacing riffs and effective drum programming make for a very good descriptive piece.

Soundtracky

Definate soundtrack material. Gentle and simple vibe to this trk. I would like to hear it without the beats as an ambient soundscape, might sound interesting as I think the beats are perhaps a little too stripped back, nice fx on them though:)

Top Gun

Again I Like the beats, but i'm not a fan of the sound of the guitar. Sounds-like a breakbeat version of a piece of music from top-gun:D

Great glitch

Lovely stuff. Great glitches and fx. Nice production too, big sound. Personally I think it could do without the kick but I like nonetheless. Some sort of drifting ambient pads would sound nice. Did'nt really like it when it turned ethnic, just never been a fan of the mixture of those two styles.

I tossed those samples in one day to see what I could do with them - after a bit, they sort of grew on me and the track sounded empty without them - so I figured I'd just let them live there as they all seemed happy at the time :)

Superb

perhaps the xylophone thing has got a bit overused, but this trk has it's own take on the style and mixes squarepusher esq beats n breaks with individuality. I love the breakdown, with the reversed sounds and genius bassline, as I said in my last review, utterly cool. That semi-squelch bassline is so infectious and then the build into the more breaky vibe is just great. I can't emphasise how good this tune is, deserves to be listened to by everyone:) Honestly the best trk I have ever heard submitted to newgrounds, simply put, it's the bollox:)

i don't totally agree its the best ever but thanks.
i've had total writers block for ages until i managed to squeeze these two out so it's nice to know sum1 appreciates them. the xylophone is quite ridiculous but it made me chuckle. As for the bass synth, it is, shock horror, a maelstrom, haven't used reason for about 6 months but got the urge here for the bass.
anyhoo, thanks for the review, gonna get a myspace page up quite soon so i'll give u a shout.

This is utterly cool. I love the percussive feel mixed with the electronic glitch. The reversed and reverbed sounds work really well. Definately gets my 5, nice to hear some experimental stuff on this site.

Nice thumping beats and an almost prodigy esque little stab riff makes this a nice dirty tune. Really cool stuff man, like it alot.

It is a nice dirty tune, as ironic and paradoxical as it sounds. Thanks man, I just realized that you pretty much watched me grow musically on this website, from birth to where I am now haha. I wonder... how much better am I now? :)

Chaotic.

Nice fat drums and good breaks and chopping. The squelchy bassline is a good contrasting sound, i'm not too keen on the riff itself though. The swirling slightly distorted pads are a nice touch and are the calm amidst the storm. This seems more like an exercise in mangling of sounds rather than a piece of music, but there's nothing wrong with that. This trk is really LOUD, i had to turn my volume below half to listen to it bearably through my headphones, loud may be good, but this might just be a little too much volume-wise. An interesting piece, but I couldn't really get into it. Good stuff nonetheless.

The bassline, yeah...I can see what you mean. It's pretty random. I was just having a bit of jam so it's not as cohesive as it could be.
I'm guessing the loudness issue is to do with the extreme saturation I applied to the drums, maybe I should be a little more selective where I apply it, thanks for raising the point.
Might be a bit long too, you know how it is when you're jamming, its easy to get carried away, but in the aftermath you realise that objectively, the song shouldn't be that long!

[Lost Sleep]

Beats, Breaks and Incidentals

Nice squarepusher esq jazz randomness intro. I definately don't call this ambient, more breaky acid electronica, but there's no category for that on this shitty site:)
Good use of filters and nice broken up vocal snippets help keep up the hectic feel of this trk.
The main beats/breaks really draw the trk together and give it focus while the incidentals do their thing. The trk progresses really well and builds into a nice head nodding tune whilst still maintaing its loose feel. I think the intro will be this tracks downfall on this site as the little kids wont listen past it to get to the main body/focus of the trk which is always a shame, but who gives a shit eh, this is another quality tune that is both interesting and accessible.
ps: I did slap a 5 on that other trk eventually:)

You're on the money as usual with your observations, the intro WILL kill me. Probably objectively they are a bit too manic for any audience though.
Glad your dug the vocals, perhaps I should be looking to do more with them though. I wish I had your skill in handling them...

Drum and no bass

Nice. I think the sounds you've used are good and definately fit well within the whole DnB ethic, but they seem to sound a little seperate. I think there needs to be some real bass added to this trk as it's a little treble heavy. The additon of a dirty sub-bass riff to complement the bassline would really help. In my opinion all the right ideas and sounds are there, but it needs to be brought together production-wise to sound complete.

Thanks for the review. To start with it was an Electro break tune (Nu-Skool/U.K Breakbeat) But as there was no Genre for it I just sped it up. I can show you the original of it. Much deeper and you feel the alot less treble. I took the orignal sub out of it because sped up, it sounded shit.
