Nice riffs

nice riff to start the trk off with. Horrible production, turn that shit down!!! you have some good riff ideas, but the recording aint nice. Turn the mix down and the gain on the amp too:)
Start quietly then build to the distorted riff, keep it quiet at first volume wise, no-one would mind:)

accomplished

very good piano playing indeed. whether or not it's good to listen to is debatable.I don't really like this kinda thing, regardless of it being played live or not, it just seems like someone wanking off on an instrument, just like a cheesy guitar solo from the 80's. Accomplished, yes, good to listen to, no.

TritoneAngel responds:

lol -- definitely a little more technical than wanking, but I get your point. This was something I had to do for a 20th Century Music class, and I thought people here might be interested in it, as it is very different from my other stuff. I tend to like this kind of stuff in small doses, but I can understand why people would cringe at the atonality of it all.

Thanks for the review.

Nice

Good solid bass/kick thump to start the tune off, nice seperation and the reverse cymbals are a nice touch. Quality production and arrangement. Everything is in the right place. It's a little slow on the build up for my liking, but I can certainly appreciate all the subtle little nuances. It's a shame it stops so suddenly, what's that all about? Good euphoric music that goes nowhere. You must have a good setup to be able to produce music of this quality. I personally dont like this genre of music, but can certainly appreciate the incredible quality of the sounds.

MattBlair responds:

I most certainly loved your review man. I appreciate it alot, and I'm quite glad people are enjoying this song. I'm touched you think incredible, im 15 now, time will only tell what happens next.

NICE

Nice distorted crunchy chopped fast breaks you made there:) Seems a shame that the trk just fades and dies, has real potential to build and build adding simple layers to help the trk grow.
Cool stuff.

LJCoffee responds:

Yeah, this one was short and sweet - I wish that I had done just that - I think I may revisit this and make an extended version with a few more bits thrown in.

BLIP

Love the simple structure of this tune, no messing, just straight-forward good sounds and solid production mixed together to create a sweet trk. Lovely bass crunch and glitchyness. Some sliced up speech/talking dropped into the background would sound really cool I reckon, layered up with the scratching. There are hints of voices from the scratches, but I think you should add some more:)
Quality tune man. 5

LJCoffee responds:

Thank you! - I always think to myself - I should really throw in some vocals but I never do... I guess I'm just too lazy to find or make them...

Nice.

Good tune, has some really nice moments. the ambient pad and breakbeat drums sound cool. Quality bass kicks and nice retro bleeps, it's just a shame the trk doesnt really go anywhere.
The arrangement is solid, just needs some more elaboration and synth/messing in my opinion. It all sounds a bit empty.
Good tune.

Creamy-T responds:

thanks a lot - i do agree. the synth part that seemed catchy doesn't come in til the end, but it never felt right putting it there. i just get really sidetracked with drum programming sometimes.

thanks for the review

Glitch

Nice glitchy video gameish piece this. Solid 'Plaid' like intro building into the stop start beats and slicing sounds. The slappy chopped bass at the end made me smile, cheeky:)
Nice stuff, just wish it went on longer.

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

yo,
cheers dude, made me chuckle too the bass:)
and yeh, i am a lazy fuck, so many tunes without an ending, (swy i'll never be l33t like you:).

arf, ;ped

Sweet.

Nice reverb and panning on the voices for the intro and cool production bringing things in slowly and steadily with the nice vocal sample to lead into the bassline. The bassline is nice and dirty and the panning on that works really well. The piano i'm not sure about, plays cool riffs but i'm not sure the sound works for my ears. The drums are good, some nice cutting and snare rolls here and there keep the interest up, tho the mid section was a little harsh on my ears.
Good stuff, will keep an eye out for the final version:)

Congrats! #1

Well well well.... The two top spots of the weekly top 5 have finally been filled with music/people that deserve it. This track is definately different from your usual stuff. A nice chilled acoustic vibe with well constructed beats and fx. Is that you playing guitar? or are those samples?
Would've been nice to hear some gentle singing with backing vox on this trak to really give it a finished sound.
Nice.

LJCoffee responds:

Thanks for saying that but I still think it's a total fluke - I've never put any stock into the weekly top 5 and I certainly can't start now! :)

That's not me this time on the guitar -
Those are just cut and spliced samples ...

Next time around though it'll have to be me playing.

Vocals, Vocals - whose got the vocals? Seems a few people would have liked vocals in there - I just might have to write something and see about scaring up a singer or two...
Thanks for the review - you're probably being far too kind but I do appreciate it!

Congrats on the top 5:)

I really like this trk. The subtleness of it is what grabs me. It's very evocative and conjures up all sorts of moods and images in the mind. The swirling effect and attacked pads at the start setup the trk well for the transition into a nice simplistic, but futuristic glitchy/lo-fi beat to drop and give the trk the required flow. The melody/lead sound is still a bit high in the mix for my tastes, just a little harsh. I often think people expect tracks to be full of so much stuff now that they are constantly waiting or expecting something different from a trk instead of actually listening to the piece itself. I like the minimalist nature of this trk and I especially like the fact that at no one point does this song lose my interest. If you sit back in the dark with your headphones on and listen to this tune whilst watching some random visualisation the trk really comes into its own.
Great stuff Mr.Rucklo, I really enjoy listening to this trk and it's subtle evolving characteristics.
My only real problem with the trk is that it could actually go on longer and keep building, developing and changing. Often within Ambient music tracks are well over 5 minutes. I think it would be interesting to keep going with this trk and see if you can take it further. I'm thinking perhaps some more agressive breaks towards the end, the introduction of another bassline and perhaps some counter melodies to interact with the lead melody, who knows, just some suggestions:)

Rucklo responds:

Ohoy!
Wow, thats how a review should look like, good creative feedback there, mate!!!
Its very difficult to get an instrument sound right when u mess around with filters, eq must move around as well as the filter in some places, so it wont get too high. This i actually didnt do here, but i tried to keep the levels "ok" anyway. Maybe i should have gotten into it a lil more...
Anyway, this song is best listened to if you, like u say, actually concentrate on the song, and listen to what´s going on there. Its not an easy song to listen to, if you just hear it out, i think theres not much special about it, really. It´s kindof supposed to give the listener pictures, so its that kind of song, yeah.
I could make it longer, like u said, and make some more perhaps radical changes to it, but in that case, perhaps there might be parts that actually gets boring? Well, one needs to see the bad to appreciate the good tho...
Good suggestions though, ill take them with me in the creation of my next piece :D
Thanx alot for the essay, mate!!!
