melancholy

really nice melancholy trk, simple but effective, a little quiet though.

MJTTOMB responds:

Thanks man, I'll try and fix the volume issues sometime soon.

Good stuff.

good production to it, nice swirly synths and rezzy bassline. Beats are a little basic, but then that 's the idea with this genre. A full tune with some nice elements, not my cup of tea musically at all, but I can appreciate the composition and execution.
Good stuff.

Distortzion responds:

Many thanks ^^

this should be given a 5 simply for the great sax and clarinet work, sounds awesome, the trk develops really well, everything compliments one another, I think this is quality music and is wasted on a site like this, the guitaring and flow from one sound/style to another is immaculate, the vocal/end cresc is simply brilliant and just makes me wonder if I could ever write anything as good.
This trk kept my interest all the way through, it interchanges from electro, to chill, to acoustic, to almost african style and, for want of a better description, 'your style'.
Honestly brilliant, why on gods green ass aren't you signed and releasing cds?
downloaded and of course 5'd.

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

well, glad you enjoyed it sir. This is the first proper track i've done since my computer died and had to work with a stripped back set-up, perhaps what you told me was right...
Am working on a sooped up version that i'll send your way when it's done but after reading this review maybe it's better left alone.
'...just makes me wonder if I could ever write anything as good.' hmm, somehow i think you already doos, i much prefer your stuff to mine but ain't that just the fuckin way she goes?
as for getting stuff released i intend to work a demo around this track and start looking for some1 to put it out.
anyways, thanks for the words of encouragement and the image of gods green ass.

production

need to sort the production out, but when you do this could be awesome. All the parts are there, but get a bit muddy, the vocals over-ride the guitars, the gits are way to quiet in the mix, so are the drums, just needs tweaking and it would sound great, nice trk, get's 4/5 from me.

CWN responds:

I know what you mean. Main problem with the guitars: I used a Fender Strat. My BC Rich was broken at the time.
The mix is sort of raw, next song im working on sounds a lot better. Hey, it's a learning process, and recording is not easy, especially if you have no idea what you're doing. (like me sometimes :D )

cracking

I love this trk, the bass is very BIG. It's circus-esque, reminiscent of early chris clark, why only beef is the beats, they could do with being more prominent and varied, still, it's a quality trk.
5/5 from me

padlock916 responds:

DUDE! a review from you to me is like a review from someone who's insanely famous! A good review from you is even better. everyone at the portal knows it's only a matter of time before you make it big! anyway thanks. I'll try to get some more drum variation in there!

well,....

...it's a piece of good piano and then ridiculous piano, i dont think it's bad, but I do wonder what's the point? Drums don't work either, very programmed, nice panning though.

Spoony18 responds:

heheh rhanks lols, it was only a test. i really dont use panning, so i put a little something together and off panned the whole thing. sounds really cool with headphones! lols. thanks for the review bud.

leafcutter john

you been listening to him much:D?
it's a nice trk, love the piano.
Haunting, reminds me of being at school, playing piano in the school hall, I personally would get rid of the 'fucking' vocal, as it kinda ruins the mood for me anyhoo.

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

leafcutter who?
school hall? yeh dude
rid of the fuckin? no, i care not should you lose your stiffy.

much love

EQ

A little more release on the piano and a little less fx/reverb might be nice i think, sounds a little muddy.
Needs more treble in the mix, i find it quite middle orientated through my phones. Love the holding note that pans, works really well. Again, I would like to hear the synth sound cut through the mix more.
I think the main issue with this trk is EQ, which is easily sorted if you still have it all as sepertate tracks. Could be due to the crappy filesize limitations on here though:)
Good soundtrack material.
Good stuff.

pitbulljones responds:

cheers KB, i think there may be a little too much bass on the piano i dunno. but i had to knock this down to 96kbps, which is never nice either.

does seem to be lackin in the high i agree, tho it feels a tad softer for it, ay be the instrument choice here not using a lot of high end instruments or sounds dunno, the monkey says i just do XD.

Yea everything is still seperate, all done in cubase as normal so i keep the project files. just in case.....

Cheers again man,

Atmos

intro very nice, dramatic with the deep reverb and strings.
All gets swallowed up in reverb a little, would like to hear the strings more 'cutting' and the synth delays really hit hard, then pan and fade. The bell sound panned right is nice, then the following sound panned left helps contrast nicely,.(maybe too far panned though, they sound a little distant)
Really atmospheric tune.
Simple but engrossing.

pitbulljones responds:

Thanks KB for the review. Yea as mentioned before the atmos was original going to introduce like a war/epic sound stage, but as usual things mutate, i did choose for the strings to be softer than normal but i understand where you're coming from, may just need a faster attack more than anythingon em.

Panning is always a problem with me, i use lil satellite speakers and im used to em but stereoimaging is a problem, need headphones and proper monitors, taken on board nonetheless.

thanks again KB

PM me when you have anything you'd like me to peruse.

Phatina

Kinda latina rhythms here. Good solid kick to the beat and nice spacious mix. Like the lo-fi filtering, nice touch. The progression is steady and purposeful. I like the choice of synths, but i have to say after the drop I was hoping for the beats to come back in a really manic style, all glitched and chopped up.
That would be my one critisism of this trk, not enough beat development. The sounds used and production is sound, but i always like to hear a bit of beat messing:)

beatmasterJAG responds:

Right on! I have been thinking about making another version of it, and I to am a fan of destructive beat progressions. I'll consider your critique! Thanks :]
